Submitting a Transfer Request

The TEB page displays the Sponsor section with the signed-in sponsor and rank near the top left. The Sponsor section also displays the status (such as Submitted), Status Date, Obligation End Date, Sponsor Months Used, and Transfer Months Available. Some fields might not display data.

To submit a transfer request:

  1. In the Select the educational program from which to transfer benefits section, select the Post-9/11 GI Bill Chapter 33 option.
  2. Read the message stating that you are converting any existing education benefits to the Post-9/11 GI Bill Chapter 33 benefits, and click OK.
  3. In the table of family members, locate the person to whom you want to transfer benefits.

If a family member is not eligible to receive transferred benefits, the word “ineligible” displays in the Relation column next to your relationship to that family member.

  1. Enter the number of months to transfer: 0 to 36 minus the months you have used or plan to use.

The Months Used column displays the number of education benefit months each eligible dependent has used. If you have used any of your education benefits as a sponsor, those months are noted at the top of the TEB page in the Sponsor Months Used field.

  1. Repeat this process for each family member to whom you want to transfer education benefits.
  2. Select all of the checkboxes in the Transferability of Education Benefits Acknowledgements section to indicate that you have read and understand each statement.
  3. Click Submit Request.

You should sign in to this page periodically to check the status of your request.
