Enrolling in Medical Benefits
Before you begin, please familiarize yourself with the plans available to you based on your status and location. Gather any information you need to update family member addresses, email, or other contact information, and the credit card or EFT information that you might need to enroll in medical plans.
As a Retiree enrolling family members in different plans (Prime and Select), be aware that you must perform a separate enrollment process for each plan.
The system times out after 15 minutes of inactivity.

- On the Family Information page, click the Medical Enrollments tab to ensure that the Start Medical Enrollment button is available.
- Under the Family Members list, click Start Medical Enrollment.
- Depending on your eligibility, the Enroll in TRICARE - Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) page may display. If this page does not display, skip to step 5. Select the appropriate radio button regarding your FEHB eligibility. If you selected the I am Eligible for, or enrolled in, FEHB option, enter an FEHB Start Date.
- Click Continue, or click Decline to cancel and discard all changes.
- On the Enroll in TRICARE - Select Enrolling Family Members (Step 1 of 5 ) page , select one (1) or more family members to enroll in TRICARE medical benefits and click Continue.
- Depending on your eligibility and whether you are within an enrollment period, you may see the page that says "Please select the reason for the new enrollment or change." If you see this page, select a reason, a QLE Effective date, and any other required information.
- On the Enroll in TRICARE - Address Verification page, confirm your address by clicking Continue, or click Edit Information to update your contact information.
- If you edit contact information, you can check your TRICARE Prime Remote eligibility by entering the sponsor's current work zip code in the Sponsor Work Zip section of the Update Address Information page. If this Zip code qualifies for TRICARE Prime Remote and the family meets all other qualifying conditions, you can enroll family members in that plan.
- On the acknowledgements page, select all of the checkboxes to acknowledge your responsibilities, then click Continue. The Select a Country for Medical Care drop-down list will be displayed for eligible beneficiaries who have an OCONUS address (including APO/FPO/DPO). You must waive access standards to enroll online. You can also select the paper form link to download a paper form and mail it to your contractor.
- Click the access standards link to learn about TRICARE Prime distance and drive time standards.
- On the Enroll in TRICARE - Select Plan (Step 2 of 5) page, select a plan for the first family member listed under Enrolling Family Members. If you are enrolling only one (1) member, only one (1) name displays.
- Depending on your affiliation and eligibility, you might see more than one (1) plan. If necessary, select a start date.
- Click Continue.
- You might see the Command Sponsored for Prime Plans page. If so, read the instructions and check the "Family member is command sponsored" box, if appropriate. Click Continue, or click Previous to return to the previous screen and choose a different plan, if available.
- If you choose a Select plan, you do not choose a PCM, so skip to step 14, Enroll in TRICARE – Confirm PCM Changes.
- On the Enroll in TRICARE - Select Provider Type (Step 2 of 5) page, select a provider type, if available. The provider type options change depending on the status and location of the beneficiary and the selected plan. Fill in any fields that display after you select a provider type.
- Click Continue. The following message will be displayed for enrollees that are eligible for a TRICARE Remote Plan overseas: "For TRICARE Prime Remote Plans, you can submit your enrollment using the Civilian provider type."
- Depending on the plan and provider type, you might see the Enroll in TRICARE - Search for a PCM (Step 2 of 5) page. If you do not see this page, go to step 14, Enroll in TRICARE - Confirm PCM Changes.
- On the Enroll in TRICARE - Search for a PCM (Step 2 of 5) page, enter search criteria to search for a PCM for the family member listed under Enrolling Family Member. (Family members with a check mark next to their name have been completed.)
- Fill in at least the required fields, such as City and State or Place of Care.
- Click Search.
- On the Enroll in TRICARE - Assign a PCM (Step 2 of 5) page, select a provider. Click Continue.
- On the Enroll in TRICARE - Confirm PCM Changes (Step 2 of 5) page, verify the selected provider information. Click Continue.
- If you selected more than one (1) family member, under Enrolling Family Members, a check mark displays next to the family member you just completed and the next family member moves up in the list.
- Select a plan and repeat the previous steps until you have assigned all family members in your list.
- Click Continue.
- Depending on your status and plan, you might see the Enroll in TRICARE - Premiums page. If not, skip to step 19, Enrollment Review.
- On the Enroll in TRICARE - Premiums page, read the instructions and fill in the required information.At the bottom of the page, select a recurring payment option. If you select EFT, another section displays where you can enter the appropriate financial information.
- Click Continue.
- On the Enroll in TRICARE - Confirm Premium Payment Information page, verify your payment details and recurring payment selection. Click Continue.
- On the Enrollment Review (Step 4 of 5) page, verify the selected enrollment options for each family member you are enrolling. Click Submit.
- On the Enroll in TRICARE - Confirmation (Step 5 of 5) page, read the information about receiving your enrollment confirmation correspondence and when enrollees can start using the new plan. Click Home to return to the family information page.
