Medicare Brochures
Turning 65 Medicare Brochures
DMDC sends a Turning 65 notification email or postcard five months prior to the month that the beneficiary turns 65. The notification directs beneficiaries to milConnect or the TRICARE website to obtain their Turning 65 Medicare Brochure. This brochure is now also available on the eCorrespondence page for individuals who turned 65 after June 2012.
Going forward, the Turning 65 Medicare Brochure will be available to individuals who are currently eligible for TRICARE and are turning age 65 within the next 5 months. This brochure explains what is required to maintain TRICARE eligibility after becoming Medicare eligible because of age. The Turning 65 Medicare Brochure is available on the eCorrespondence page for up to 18 months (5 months before the individual's birthday and 13 months after it) after it is mailed from DMDC.
The Turning 65 Medicare Brochure is not available if the individual's Medicare eligibility was not reported to DMDC by the CMS. This may happen if CMS does not have a record of it.
Under 65 Medicare Brochures
After CMS notifies DMDC that DEERS should be updated to reflect that the beneficiary is now Medicare-eligible, DMDC sends either an email or postcard directing the beneficiary to milConnect or the TRICARE website to obtain their Under 65 Medicare Brochure.
This brochure is available to:
- Active Duty, National Guard, and Reserve members on Early Alert or active duty
- Retired and Retired Reserve members and their family members who are under the age of 65, and were reported to the DMDC as Medicare-eligible based on disability or end stage renal disease after 16 August 2012
The Under 65 Medicare Brochure is not available if the individual's Medicare eligibility was not reported to the DMDC by CMS. This may happen if CMS does not have a record of it.
