Defense Personnel Records Information (DPRIS)-Overview

Select Correspondence/Documentation, Defense Personnel Records Information (DPRIS)

The U.S. Armed Forces maintains an OMPF for every veteran and Service member.

If you are a veteran or a member of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, or Coast Guard and are serving as active duty, Reserve, or Guard, or if you are retired, you can use the DPRIS page in milConnect to request and receive scanned copies of documents in your OMPF.

  • To determine whether your documents are available online, what to do if they are not, and for many more details about your OMPF documents, please read the DPRIS FAQs in milConnect.

Follow these steps to request and view your personnel file documents:

  1. Use the DPRIS pages in milConnect to submit a request for documents in your OMPF.
    • DPRIS sends your request to the Military Service document repository that you indicate.
    • Your Service Repository processes your request and sends the response to DPRIS.
    • DPRIS sends you an email indicating that the scanned documents are ready to view.
  2. Use the DPRIS portlet to download and view your documents in Adobe PDF format.
  • Be sure to login within 10 days to view/download the response before it is automatically purged by the system. If it purges, you can make a new request at any time.

On the About DPRIS home page, you will find two (2) tabs that allow you to request your personnel file or contact DPRIS support.
